Minneapolis Neighborhoods

Minneapolis is broken out into areas and then Neighborhoods.  The City of Minneapolis website has an excellent community page with profiles, census information and statistics for the different neighborhoods.  A detailed map provided by the City of Minneapolis shows the location of each area and neighborhood.

Some of the most desired areas with homes for sale in Minneapolis are around the city’s lakes on the southwest side (Cedar Lake, Lake of the Isles, Lake Calhoun and Lake Harriet). Downtown Minneapolis has many offerings of lofts and condominiums for sale. Minneapolis communities differ in a variety of ways in terms of community feel, cultural heritage, home styles and shopping/districts. Below you will find some brief descriptions of some of these communities.  Clicking on the community link below will bring you to a map of the area and show the properties currently for sale.  If I haven’t listed a community you might be interested in, simply scroll to the neighborhood to see available homes for sale.

One of the most desired areas with homes for sale in Minneapolis is the Calhoun-Isle area (map) centrally located near Uptown and just southwest of Minneapolis, the Calhoun-Isle area offers endless entertainment, dining, and shopping possibilities.  The location to the lakes and the miles of the interconnecting Grand Rounds National Scenic Byway trail system also make it a hub for the recreation and sport-minded home-buyer.  The area consists of the Minneapolis neighborhoods of (click on neighborhood to see current MLS listings of homes for sale) Bryn-Mawr, Kenwood, Lowry Hill, Cedar-Isles-Dean, East Isles, Lowry Hill East, West Calhoun, East Calhoun (ECCO), and CARAG (Calhoun Area Residents Action Group). Home buyers in this area of Minneapolis can purchase anything from a townhome/condominium to a duplex to a single family, arts-and-crafts style home to something much more stately.  For a full map search of the Calhoun-Isle area click here.

Another highly desirable area with homes for sale is Southwest Minneapolis (map).  Home values in this area increase with their proximity to Lake Harriet and Minnehaha Parkway.  Neighborhoods/communities in this area are Linden Hills, Fulton, Armatage, Kenny, Windom, Lynnhurst, Tangletown, East Harriet, and King Field.  For a map search of all MLS listings available for sale in Southwest Minneapolis click here.

These neighborhoods can take on a more sophisticated feel like the Country Club and 50th and France area of Fulton to the more laid-back Lynnhurst.  Homes here were built mostly in the early to mid 1900’s and you will find nicely updated story and one-halfs, tudors, arts and crafts, Mediterannean, two-story and craftsman style homes.  No matter what your style, Southwest Minneapolis has a neighborhood and home for you.

If you’d rather walk to work than take the bus, one of the lofts for sale in Downtown Minneapolis may be the right choice for you.  Downtown Minneapolis has its areas/districts also.  Again each with its own hub of retail and dining activity, these communities within the city each has their own special flavor.  The districts/neighborhoods of the city include the Warehouse District, the St. Anthony East, St. Anthony West, Marcy Holmes, the Mill District, Loring Park, Stevens Square-Loring Heights, Nicollet Island/East Bank, Downtown East, Downtown West and Elliot Park among others.  Properties styles can vary from a loft with its high ceilings, brick, concrete and wooden beams to a newly built high-rise with affordable townhomes to pricier penthouse options.  Many of the Downtown Minneapolis housing options are recent developments so there is plenty to look to find what’s right for you.
